A circa 1800 Cornish Pine Dresser with a 4 drawer base and astragal glazing to the upper section. In common with virtually all pieces of furniture that have been in daily use for 200 odd years there have been repairs carried out but overall It is in very good condition with original cornice and quartered bobbin turned applied mouldings typical of West Cornwall. When acquired the drawers were fitted with modern handles so they have have been replaced with appropriate Savill's reproductions. The generously deep interior too has been re-painted in a more sympathetic hue but in all other respects, such as the wide back boards and single panel drawer bases, this handsome dresser is as it was made. Country furniture is always difficult to date with exactitude but it is safe to say that beautifully proportioned example dates from prior to 1820 as it has the elegance and colour that sets that period of pine apart from that of Victorian and later times.
